Asthma medications we may prescribe
Rescue inhalers are fast-acting medications used to relieve asthma symptoms when they occur. Depending on your medical history and treatment needs, a provider may prescribe medications such as albuterol or levalbuterol. Examples include:
- ProAir (albuterol)
- Xopenex
Maintenance or controller medications are taken regularly to help prevent asthma symptoms and reduce flare-ups. Long-acting medication examples:
- Symbicort
- Advair
- Spiriva (tiotropium)
- Dulera
- Serevent (salmeterol)

Before prescribing medication, your Lemonaid provider will review your asthma diagnosis, current symptoms, medical history and previous treatments. If you know your peak flow rate, let us know. During your video visit, they'll discuss available treatment options and determine whether online asthma treatment is appropriate for you.

Can I get an inhaler prescribed online?
Yes, in many cases. If you’ve already been diagnosed with asthma and the Lemonaid Health medical team decides treatment is appropriate for you, a licensed doctor or nurse practitioner can send a prescription for a daily or rescue inhaler to a pharmacy near you after your online video consultation.
If it isn’t safe to treat you online, we’ll tell you and ask you to be seen in person instead.
How much does an online asthma visit cost?
An online asthma visit with Lemonaid Health costs $75. That covers your online health questions, the video consultation with a doctor or nurse practitioner, your prescription if one is appropriate, and unlimited messaging with our medical team afterwards.
The medication itself is separate and depends on your pharmacy and insurance.
How fast can I get an asthma prescription online?
Same day. Lemonaid Health will write you a same-day prescription that you can pick up at a pharmacy near you, as long as our medical team decides treatment is appropriate after your video consultation.
What kinds of asthma treatment does Lemonaid Health cover?
A Lemonaid Health asthma visit covers both short-acting rescue inhalers and long-acting daily controller inhalers, plus professional guidance to help you get the most out of your prescription and unlimited messaging with our medical team.

What if I’ve never been diagnosed with asthma?
Please see a medical professional in person if you’ve never been diagnosed with asthma before. A first diagnosis needs an in-person examination and breathing tests that we can’t do online, so we’re not able to help in that situation.
What happens during an online asthma visit?
A Lemonaid Health doctor or nurse practitioner reads your answers and your medical history before the appointment starts, including any asthma treatment you’ve tried in the past. During the visit they talk through your treatment options and the risks that come with them, and answer your questions.
If you know your peak flow rate, have it ready — it helps.
Who is not eligible for treatment?
We’re not able to help you online if you:
- Have never been diagnosed with asthma before
- Are under 18 or older than 60
- Have shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, or are wheezing
- Have chest pain
- Are experiencing confusion
- Have been hospitalized during the past week
- Are experiencing dizziness and are producing an abnormally small amount of urine
- Need paperwork for a disability evaluation, work compensation, time off, or HSA/FSA reimbursement. We also can’t help with physicals for employment
- Use supplemental oxygen or need a prescription for supplemental oxygen
- Require daily prednisone, theophylline, desensitization injections, or biologic medicines in addition to using inhaled asthma medications
